    Vi på Saltkråkan (Swedish)

    Author:Astrid Lindgren
    Director:Olle Hellbom

"On the Seacrow island in the archipelago, Tjorven lives with her parents Nisse and Märta Grankvist and sisters Teddy and Freddy. Nisse and Märta run the trading booth. Since Tjorven is too small to be on the lake with her older sisters, she mostly plays with her best friend the saint bernhard dog Båtsman. The Melkersson family arrives with the archipelago boat ""Saltkråkan"" from town to take possession of their summer cottage ""Snickargården"". The family consists of five people: the writer Melker Melkersson, who is a widower, eldest daughter Malin, who has taken mother place, and the boys Johan, Niklas and Pelle.Astrid Lindgren had ended up in the archipelago through her parents-in-law's purchase of a summer house in Furusund, and this place became one of her absolute favorite places, where she spent every summer as long as she lived. She loved the archipelago and the summer idyll out there."Saltkråkan" was originally the name of the Lindgren family's sailboat, and then also became the name of the TV series that Olle Hellbom and Olle Nordemar were nagging themselves about. Having had a summer residence in the archipelago for 30 years, Astrid thought she knew the environment well enough to write about it. It is the only one of her stories written directly for television.Maria Johansson as Tjorven was named Sweden's greatest TV personality, Torsten Lilliecrona as Melker as best male actor and the series as the year's best TV program in 1964.The recordings were made for the most part at Norröra in the Stockholm archipelago. In 1968, a movie came out that was a cut-down version of the TV series."

      Astrid Lindgren in Norway

The first to bring Astrid Lindgren's books abroad was the publisher Damm & Søn in Oslo, with their Norwegian edition of "Pippi Longstocking" already appearing in 1946. This marked the beginning of a long-standing relationship. Today, most of her books in Norway are published by Cappelen Damm, a publishing house formed through the merger of Cappelen and Damm. Astrid's book adaptations into films also became popular in Norway, as did her famous songs. One of Astrid Lindgren's favorite books was "Hunger" by the Norwegian author Knut Hamsun; she often mentioned it as one of her greatest reading experiences.
