"Mio, my Mio" is a 1987 fantasy adventure film by Russian director Vladimir Grammatikov based on Astrid Lindgren's children's book of the same name. It was a co-production between the then Soviet Union, Sweden and Norway and essentially follows the original novel. Nick Pickard stars as the boss-turned-Prince Mio, and other notable roles include 13-year-old Christian Bale in his debut feature film, Timothy Bottoms as the king, Susannah York as the weaver and Christopher Lee as the evil knight Kato.The film had its world premiere in July 1987 at the Moscow Film Festival and was shown in German cinemas from March 10, 1988 and in East German cinemas from April 7, 1989."
