Throughout the Second World War, Astrid Lindgren wrote a diary in which she told about everyday life in Stockholm, about what happened in the world and about Sweden's actions during the war. Astrid Lindgren's war diaries are a very personal account of how dramatic world events affect us all. This is before Astrid Lindgren's time as a world famous author; the first book about Pippi Longstocking was published the same year the war ended, 1945. What many people do not know is that she was an early anti-Nazi and that throughout her life she fought against war and violence. She was a convinced humanist and a person who thought for himself and stood for his opinions with civil courage as well as humor and love.Mixed with Astrid Lindgren's own notes, the diaries contain lots of cut-out articles from Swedish newspapers that she comments on. The book contains over 70 facsimile images of the diary entries and many previously unpublished family photos from the war years. The author Kerstin Ekman, who knew Astrid Lindgren, has written the foreword and Astrid's daughter, Karin Nyman, has written the afterword.A total of 17 diaries have been published in book form. A unique document from an ordinary person and one of the world's most famous Swedes.The war diaries received a lot of attention when they were released just in time for the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.
