In The Noisy village there are three farms, Norrgården, Mellangården and Sörgården. Six children live there, Lisa and Lasse and Bosse and Britta and Anna and Olle. They play and play, and mostly it's fun. It's lovely to sleep on the haystack, dressing up and going to school - it's especially fun on the way there and on the way home! The books about the children in Bullerbyn are based on Astrid Lindgren's own childhood and upbringing on the farm Näs in Vimmerby. The story was published as a serial in Tidningen Vi in 1946 and was published as a book for the first time in 1947. In many places 1946 is given as the first publication year, this is because the sheets for the book were printed in 1946 and the first edition was therefore given that year. However, the book was not bound and published until the following year, the first reviews in the Swedish press are from October 1947 (source: Bildbibliography by Lars Bengtsson).
